On August 15, 86, Directorate of Women and Child Development was constituted in Madhya Pradesh and all the schemes related to women and children were transferred from Tribal Welfare Department and Panchayat and Social Welfare Department to this Directorate.

Initially this Directorate was under the administrative control of Panchayat and Rural Development Department and in the year 1988, a separate Women and Child Development Department was formed.

The beneficiaries of the Department of Women and Child Development are the weaker sections of the society, women and children, whose development and welfare work is not easy and is not going to be completed in a short time.

While many schemes of the department have expanded, new schemes like Ladli Laxmi Yojana, Atal Bal Mission, Integrated Child Protection Scheme are also being implemented. The department has accepted every challenge of development while staying dynamic.

The figures of achievement are not big but the status of women in the society has continuously improved, there has been awareness among women about their rights and interests, malnutrition of children has reduced.

This is an important step in ensuring that the child from the poorest family in the state is ensured adequate supplementary nutrition when it is most needed for his overall mental and physical well-being.
