Gram Ujala Yojana has been started by the central government under the Gram Ujala program. Under this scheme, LED bulbs will be given to the villagers. What is Gram Ujala Yojana?

Central government’s Gram Ujala Yojana is being operated by the nodal agency Convergence Energy Service Limited (CESL). The scheme was launched on 19 March 2021, the scheme was launched by Ram Kumar Singh, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy. Under the Gram Ujala Yojana, the villagers are given LED bulbs in just 10. Government company CESL is providing LED bulbs to the villagers at a very low price, before that no other company had sold LED bulbs at such low prices. The benefit of Gram Ujala Scheme will be given only to the villagers.

Gram Ujala Yojana (Purpose of the scheme)

The government is fulfilling its promise of reaching village-to-village electricity, but at this time there are many villages in the country where people are not able to pay electricity bills, even buy bulbs. The cost of LED bulbs is too high for many villagers. Bulbs are available in the market at cheap prices, but due to high wattage, the power consumption is high. By giving good quality LED bulb to the villagers at a low price, their house will also be illuminated and due to less wattage, the bills of the villagers will also come down.

For this purpose, the government has started Gram Ujala Yojana. In the first phase of Gram Ujala Yojana, the government company CESL has set a target of distributing 1.5 crore LED bulbs.

Villages of 5 states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh have been selected for the first phase of Gram Ujala Scheme for distribution of LED bulbs at affordable rates. The scheme will start from village Ara in Bihar, villages located near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, neighboring villages of Nagpur in Maharashtra, villages located in western Gujarat. Out of all these five states, first of all the scheme was launched online in village Ara of Bihar. Surely this scheme will prove beneficial for the villagers and the government.

Who will get Ujala Scheme?

All households with electricity connection fitted with home meter can avail under this scheme. Under this scheme customers can purchase LED lights in EMI mode. There is also the option of paying the full amount.

What is needed Ujala Scheme?

These LED lights are not available in all stores. The Ujala project will provide affordable LED bulbs through specially set up centers for this purpose. You will need to provide the latest e-payment receipt for purchases in EMI mode. Similarly, a government-recognized identity document, including Aadhaar, will be required. Identity document alone is sufficient to make a purchase in advance.

The state of Tamil Nadu Ujala Scheme

In Tamil Nadu, 43,62,984 LED bulbs have been distributed so far under the Ujala scheme. This saves 5,66,608 MW of electricity per day and saves Rs 227 crore.
